For Photography

For a Contemplative Experience

If you want to enjoy the Pantheon at your own pace, with space to sit on a bench and admire the dome: Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon, after 16:00, in the low season (November–February). You will have the space almost to yourself.

The time I recommend to everyone is Tuesday at 9:00 in winter. I know, it's not the most convenient time for a tourist, but it is the most beautiful. Golden light, silence, cold outside and 2,000 years of history surrounding you. Treat yourself to a coffee in the square afterwards — the bar on the corner makes an excellent espresso.

Seasonality: Peak and Off-Peak Season

Peak Season (April–October)

Tourist numbers reach their highest from Easter to the end of October. During this period:

Off-Peak Season (November–March)

The best period to visit. Short or non-existent queues, more room inside, evocative winter light. The only downside: shorter days mean less time after your visit to explore the surroundings in natural light.

Special Events & Dates to Note

How Long Does a Visit Take?

💡 Combine Your Visit The Pantheon is a 5-minute walk from Piazza Navona and the Trevi Fountain. Plan a route that takes in all three: Pantheon (early morning, shorter queue) → Piazza Navona → Trevi Fountain. In 3 hours you cover three of Rome's most iconic sights.

Frequently Asked Questions about Opening Hours

Is the Pantheon open on Mondays?

Yes. The Pantheon is open every day of the week, including Mondays. Hours: 9:00–19:00.

What is the best time to visit the Pantheon?

To avoid crowds: 9:00–10:00 or after 17:00 on weekdays. For the best light: 9:00–9:30 (morning beam) or noon (sun at its zenith through the oculus).

Does the Pantheon close during Mass?

It does not close entirely, but tourist access may be restricted during religious services. Masses are held mainly on Sundays and public holidays. During those times you may enter as a worshipper, but it is not appropriate to behave as a tourist (taking photos, talking loudly).

Can I visit the Pantheon in the evening?

Last entry is 30 minutes before closing (18:30 Mon–Sat, 17:30 Sunday). There are no regular evening openings, but special night events are occasionally organised. The exterior piazza is beautiful in the evening too, when it is lit up.

Is the Pantheon open on Ferragosto (15 August)?

Generally open in the morning and closed in the afternoon. Exact hours can vary from year to year. Check the official Ministry of Culture website before your visit.
